The story behind our name...

An Alchemist was a person throughout history who spent their lives trying to find a way to change basic metals into gold.

For us the word 'Alchemist' has a different meaning. A few years back Francois received a book as a gift called the Alchemist. It quickly became his favorite and he talked about it constantly, so Erin then read it.
The story tells a mythical tale of a young man setting out on a long adventure searching for a treasure. Along the way he meets many people, including an Alchemist. At the end of the story he discovers that the treasure he was searching for was at home the whole time, but if it was not for the journey he would not have found his treasure.

Our name is based on these two meanings and evolved into Alchemist Restaurant.


Francois: Chef and Co-owner. Francois started his culinary career at age 15 while working a summer job. He quickly realized he enjoyed the hospitality industry and furthered his education with a two year cooking diploma from Cuisine d'etablisement Sherbrooke Quebec. He was recruited from the cooking school to work with Chef Michelle Lanot for 3 years at his Auberge les Boises de Lee Farm, a 4 star Relais Gourmand Bed and Breakfast in Standstead, Quebec.
Francois then headed out west and worked in various culinary hot spots including Banff Springs Hotel, Cafe Brio in Victoria, and Burrowing Owl Winery in Oliver, BC.
His Mission is to spread happiness throughout the day - it is contagious!
Erin: Chef and Co-owner. An easy bake oven enthusiast, her first restaurant was at age 5 when she collected quarters from neighbors when they came over for breakfast -although her father did all of the cooking and cleaning she still enjoyed spending the quarters on 5 cent candy.
Her culinary career includes a Culinary Diploma from Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo, Red Seal Certificate from SAIT while working at Banff Springs Hotel for 6 years. Dunsmuir Lodge in Victoria, Clayquot Wilderness Resort in Tofino, and Burrowing Owl Winery in Oliver, B.C. for 3 years.
Erin's quote is "every dish in the restaurant contains a secret ingredient: it is made with love."
